Prior to designing the book, I was assigned to read Georges Perec's "Brief Notes on the Art and Manner of Arranging One's Books," a text that explores the complexities of organizing a book collection. Following this, I was tasked with cataloguing and arranging my own collection of books using the Perec text as a reference guide.
Although I am not an avid reader and didn't have a personal collection, I decided to use the books that I had read during middle school. To execute the project, I collected the data from Amazon.com, which provided me with various sorting options, such as page count, publication date, cost, and rating. I ultimately decided to sort the books by page count.
As I experimented with different arrangements of the information, I realized that something was missing. I created visualizations of the page count, rating, and publication dates, this allowed for each page to have a design unique to its own book. The covers were designed by stacking all of the visualizations on top of each other to provide a unique and interesting design that complements the book's contents.
